Preparing for Martyn's Law
Communication and preparedness are becoming increasingly important considerations for organisations responsible for publicly accessible premises and events.
Martyn's Law, formally the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, aims to improve public safety by requiring qualifying premises and events to take proportionate measures to reduce the impact of a terrorist attack and improve preparedness.
For organisations preparing for the legislation, the focus extends beyond existing physical security measures to include the ability to plan, communicate and respond effectively during an incident.
This is particularly important in fast-moving situations where one response may not be appropriate across an entire site, some areas may need to evacuate, while others may need to lock down or move people to a safer location.
Organisations therefore need to consider how instructions can be communicated clearly and quickly to the relevant people, and this is where AddSecure can help.
Preparing for Martyn's Law should include reviewing response plans, assessing communication capabilities, training staff, strengthening communication resilience and maintaining an auditable record of actions and decisions.
Organisations should also consider whether alerts can be triggered quickly, whether communications can be directed to specific teams or areas and whether their communication systems can continue to support an effective response during disruption.
Technology forms only one part of that preparation, people need to understand procedures, responsibilities and escalation processes, while organisations need clear plans for different scenarios.
Meet AddSecure at The Showman's Show
The Showman's Show will give AddSecure an opportunity to demonstrate technology that can support organisations as they review their approach to communication, preparedness and incident response.
The AddSecure team will be available throughout the show to discuss communication, preparedness and the practical considerations organisations should be reviewing ahead of Martyn's Law.
If you are attending The Showman's Show on 21–22 October, visit AddSecure at stand 17 to meet the team and find out more.
