CoreRFID and Ten47: RFID built into the cable for faster returns
When a job comes back, the clock starts. Hundreds of near-identical cables come back in flight cases, and there’s another load-out booked for tomorrow. Booking that kit in by hand can take hours, and kit that isn’t booked in can’t go back out on hire.
We’re bringing a new product to market with cable manufacturer Ten47 that goes straight at that problem: cable with an RFID tag built into the connector.
CoreRFID helps hire and rental businesses track their kit with RFID. We supply the tags and readers, and we work with you from the start: on-site assessments, tag testing integration with the hire software you already use, and training for your team. Alongside that, our CheckedOK software handles inspection and compliance for LOLER, PUWER, work-at-height regs and other statutory requirements.
Tag built in, nothing extra to fit
The tags go into the connector during manufacture, so there’s no external tag to attach. A returns batch that can take hours to book in takes seconds or minutes with a reader.
RFID reader toolkits let you feed the data straight into your hire software, and our developer can provide consultancy, middleware or integration if you’d like help. Early testing has used our in-house readers and samples in the hands of end users, on their own reader set-ups, with longer-term field testing planned. The cables will be available from early 2027 across most of Ten47’s overmoulded cable range.
Richard Harrison, Technical Sales Director at CoreRFID said: “Most hire companies we speak to have the same end-of-job problem. Kit comes back faster than the team can book it in. It reduces overall capacity with increased turnaround times. With the tag built in to the connector, there’s nothing extra to fit, and a returns batch that can take hours takes seconds or minutes.”

Already own the kit? Retrofit tags cover it
New cables will take time to work through your hire stock, so tagging what’s already in the warehouse still matters. We supplier durable tags for cables, flight cases and other equipment, chosen to survive pressure washing and festival mud.
dbnAudile, who supply audio, lighting and rigging for clubs, festivals and corporate events, have tagged more than 10,000 items. Their team now find it in under two minutes with handheld readers. In summer 2025 they supplied 19 back-to-back festivals, and RFID let them identify instantly which items could go straight to the next event without returning to the warehouse. The readers connect to their existing rental management system, so nothing had to be replaced. Read the dbnAudile case study.
The gains aren’t limited to AV either. A UK equipment hire business saved 3,418 hours a year, around 950 working days, and cut processing time by 50%. Our guide to the real cost of an RFID system for hire businesses sets out what a system costs in practice.
Come and see it
The RFID-enabled cable will be on our stand at the Showman’s Show, alongside examples of the retrofit tags. Come to stand 36 and talk through how each would work with your kit and your reader set-up.
