Inside or Out?
I've always enjoyed the variety that comes with working in the events industry.
One week I'm walking through the doors of a modern exhibition hall. The next I'm pulling on my boots before heading out to a showground, hoping the weather forecast has got it right. It keeps the job interesting, but it's also a reminder that no two exhibitions are ever quite the same.
People often ask whether it's better to exhibit indoors or outdoors. The honest answer is... neither.
The right environment depends entirely on what you're trying to achieve.
Some products naturally belong outside. Others are better showcased in the controlled surroundings of an exhibition hall. What matters isn't where your stand is located, it's whether the environment helps visitors experience your business in the way you intended.
Indoor exhibitions offer consistency. Outdoor events bring a completely different dynamic, allowing machinery and larger products to be experienced as intended. That freedom also brings additional planning around weather, access, power and logistics.
One of the things I particularly like about The Showman's Show is that it embraces both environments. Visitors can move between indoor exhibition space and outdoor displays, giving exhibitors the opportunity to showcase products in the setting that suits them best.
Whether you're exhibiting inside or outside, people don't remember the biggest stand. They remember the businesses that welcomed them, understood their challenges and took the time to have a genuine conversation.
After all, exhibitions aren't really about buildings or fields. They're about people.
