The Association of Festival Organisers (AFO) has issued a request for industry input into a review of the Purple Guide. Many event professionals are well aware of the Purple Guide and its immense value to the outdoor events and festival industry. It has been some years in the care of the Events Industry Forum (EIF) overseen by the Health and Safety Executive. Its chair, Steve Heap said: “We all learnt a lot during the pandemic and a good deal of the information gathered has now led to a review of the chapters within the Guide.

“The chapters were written by voluntary sub-groups and chaired by that specific subject leader. All of these people are now being asked to review their chapter and make any changes they feel appropriate, or even necessary. In some cases, it will be none, in others it will be considerable. In addition to that we have new legislation i.e., Martyn’s Law and a review of Duty of Care is on the horizon. Consideration to crowd control, numbers of SIA staff required and of course, chapters on how to handle pandemics, should that occasion arise again.”

Should any of our readers wish to be involved in the review, EIF would be very happy to hear from you. The work is voluntary and for the benefit of the wider outdoor events industry. Please contact Steve Heap E: sh@eventsindustryforum.co.uk for details of how to get involved.
